Indian Head Massage

What is Indian Head Massage?

Indian Head Massage is a relaxing, focused treatment designed to release tension through the upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp and head.

Based on traditional Indian massage techniques, the treatment works through a combination of massage, pressure and rhythmic movements to target some of the areas where we commonly hold stress and tension.

At YOU Massage, your therapist will tailor the treatment around you, focusing on the areas that feel most tense. The massage can include the upper back, shoulders, upper arms, neck, scalp, face and ears, depending on your needs and the treatment you’ve booked. The treatment can be particularly lovely if you spend a lot of time at a desk, experience tension around your shoulders and neck, or simply want a focused treatment that helps you switch off.

Indian Head Massage can also be combined with a Holistic Back Massage or a Full Body Massage, creating a longer and more comprehensive treatment. Please contact our recpetion team if you would like us to help you choose the combination that best suits what you’re looking for.

Benefits of Holistic Aromatherapy Massage

Indian Head Massage can be a wonderful way to release accumulated tension and give your upper body and head some much-needed attention. It may help to:

  • Ease tension in the neck and shoulders
  • Release tightness across the upper back
  • Improve comfortable movement through the neck and shoulders
  • Encourage circulation
  • Reduce feelings of stress and tension
  • Ease feelings of tension around the head and face
  • Give you dedicated time to slow down and switch off

The scalp and head massage can also feel particularly soothing, making this a popular treatment for anyone who carries a lot of tension through their upper body or finds it difficult to fully relax.

When is Not Recomended

Indian Head Massage involves more focused and sometimes firmer pressure than some relaxation treatments, so it isn’t suitable for everyone.

Please tell your therapist about any relevant health conditions, injuries, medication or concerns before your treatment so they can decide whether the treatment is appropriate and adapt their approach where necessary.

In particular, please speak to us before booking if you have a recent neck or head injury, significant cardiovascular or neurological conditions, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or another condition that may make massage unsuitable.

If you have a serious medical condition, please seek advice from your doctor or healthcare professional before receiving massage therapy.

A treatment for busy minds and tense bodies

Indian Head Massage is particularly suited to people who carry stress through their neck, shoulders and head.

Whether you’ve spent hours at a computer, have been dealing with a stressful week or simply want some focused time to relax, this treatment gives you the opportunity to step away from everything else and concentrate on how you feel.

Many people describe it as a wonderfully “head-clearing” treatment — a chance to slow down, breathe and let some of that accumulated tension go.

What to Expect from your Treatment

Your Indian Head Massage takes place fully clothed on a comfortable massage table.

Your therapist will begin using massage and pressure techniques to warm the muscles and work through areas of tension. They will then move through the shoulders, upper arms and neck, adapting the pressure to your preferences and how your body responds.

The treatment continues to the scalp and head, using rhythmic massage techniques to encourage relaxation and create a wonderfully soothing sensation. Depending on your treatment, your therapist may also include the face and ears, with gentle techniques around areas where tension can accumulate.

No oil is required, although you can choose to enhance your treatment with Aromatherapy if appropriate. You can let your therapist know whether you’d prefer a more energising or deeply relaxing experience, and they’ll adapt the treatment around you.
